Your Pathway to Becoming an Early Childhood Assistant in Ontario
Step-by-step on how the program helps internationally trained early childhood educators transition into Ontario’s childcare workforce.
Ontario’s childcare sector is growing — and it needs qualified, caring, and culturally diverse professionals who can bring unique perspectives to early learning. If you’ve studied or worked in early childhood education outside of Canada, your skills and passion are needed here.
Computek College’s Integrated Early Childhood Assistance Training Program is your bridge to a meaningful career in Ontario’s licensed childcare centres. This 54-week hybrid program blends industry-focused learning, real-world practicum experience, and personalized career support to help you bridge seamlessly into the workforce.
Step 1: Build Your Ontario-Ready Skills
Our program is aligned with industry and employer standards so you’ll gain the knowledge and expertise that Ontario’s childcare sector is looking for. You’ll study through a mix of online and in-person classes, giving you the flexibility to balance your education with life’s demands.
Alongside technical training, you will also be provided with additional bridge training modules, including in digital literacy, financial literacy, workplace culture, and mental health support, to ensure a holistic learning experience because being career-ready isn’t just about a strong resume, it’s about confidence, well-being, and community connection.
Step 2: Take Advantage of Financial Aid and Support Services
Financial Aid is available to those who are eligible, ensuring you can focus on your education without financial stress. Our dedicated Financial Aid Advisors are available to help you navigate your funding options.
Throughout your journey, our Education Consultants, Student Success team, and Career Services team work together to support you every step of the way — from your first day in class to your first day on the job. Whether you need academic guidance, assistance with tech, or help connecting with employers, we’re here to help you succeed.
Step 3: Gain Hands-On Experience
You’ll complete 16 weeks of practicum placement in licensed Ontario childcare centres, applying your skills in real-world environments. This experience not only builds your confidence but also connects you with potential employers, increasing your employment opportunities. In some cases, students secure job offers from their placement sites.
Step 4: Access Ongoing Career Support
Graduation isn’t the end of your journey – it’s the beginning of your career. That’s why we offer 12 months of post-program support, including:
- Resume workshops tailored to the childcare sector
- Job fairs to connect you with hiring employers
- Mock interviews to help you shine in front of recruiters
- One-on-one career guidance to help you find the right fit for your skills
Funded in Partnership with the Ontario Bridge Training Program
This program is supported, in part, through funding from the Ontario Bridge Training Program, administered by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development (MLITSD).
